CREATING A LATEX INSTALLATION DISK
(These directions assume you are logged in to a workstation in the SCS
lab or are running Linux on a PC at home and have a broadband
connection.)
1. Right-click on the following link:
disk image
and save the link file to the /tmp directory.
2. Open a terminal window and type "k3b". The K3b application comes
up.
3. Click on the "Tools" menu to drop down the options.
4. Click on the "CD" option to pop up another submenu on the right.
5. Choose the option, "Burn CD Image...". The dialogue box entitled
"Burn CD Image - K3b" pops up.
6. In the "Image to Burn" text box, type:
/tmp/CSI601_602Fall2003CD-01.iso
7. Click the "Start" button on the upper-right hand corner of the
dialogue box.
8. K3b burns the ISO image onto the blank CD.
9. When the burn process finishes, the finished CD will be ejected from
the drive. Close all windows and exit K3b
To access your data on the CD-RW disc place the disc in the CD drawer
and
close it. If necessary, in a terminal window type: "usermount". Mount
the CD and in the terminal window type: "cd /mnt/cdrom" To list the
contents of the disk
type "ls -R" or "ls -aR"
To remove the CD first type "cd" to change the current directory from
the
CD to your home directory. Then type "eject".
****IMPORTANT****
1. Label the CD just created, "CSI 601/602"
2. Delete the image file from the computer.
"rm /tmp/CSI601_602Fall2003CD-01.iso.*"
