This is usually the second DVD drive from the top of the unit. Put the blank CD into the drive bay." 2. Open a shell (terminal window) 3. Type "k3b" =================================================================================== 3a. If this is the first time K3b is running on your machine, a "Writer Speed Verification Screen" comes up that prompts you for the correct speed of your CD writer. Accept the default by clicking OK. 3b. Also a window "CD/DVD creator" comes up. Close that window. 3c. After dismissing the window entitled "Writer Speed Verification Screen", another window entitled "Tip of the day" might pop up. Ignore it and close." =================================================================================== 4. The K3b window appears, with the lower half containing project options: a. New Audio CD Project b. New Data CD Project c. New Data DVD Project d. Copy CD ... 5. Click on item [4b] above, i.e. New Data CD Project; the lower window now shows the panes: a. left pane should show "DataCD1" on the tab and "K3b data project" as default titles b. right pane shows the following directions for choosing directories to back up: Use drag'n'drop to add files and directories to the project. To remove or rename files use the context menu. After that press the burn button to write the CD. 6. Follow the directions in [5b] above to select directories and/or files to be backed up 7. After finalizing all files to be backed up, click on the "BURN" button on the lower right half of the window. 8. The dialogue box 'Data Project K3b' comes up. The default settings for K3b assume that no additional data will be added to the CD after backup is done. In this case just click the 'BURN' button on the upper-right hand corner of the dialogue box. However, if you intend to backup more data into the CD at a later time, you must change the default settings for 1this session: 8a. Click on the "Settings" tab. 8b. Find the group of radio buttons entitled 'Multisession'. 8c. Click on the radio button marked 'Start multisession'. 8d. Proceed with burning by clicking on the 'BURN' button." 9. Back up will proceed until the CD ejects to indicate burning is done.
